What do Traffic Controllers and STMSs do?
There’s much more to traffic control than meets the eye. Our traffic team are responsible for keeping road users, communities and construction teams safe, and helping everyone get where they need to go.

Traffic Controllers
- Keep traffic flowing safely by watching, setting up barriers, signs and cones.
- Talk to the public, explaining the works underway.
- Provide safe work spaces for road workers, helping pedestrians and answering questions from local residents.
- Navigate the traffic and pedestrians around sites.
STMSs
- Supervise all people on roadwork sites including Traffic Controllers.
- Communicate with the public and all people working on the site.
- Manage all aspects of the site to ensure the safety of the people on site, traffic and compliance with necessary standards.
- Responsible for the overall success and safety of the roadwork site.
No experience? No problems
We’re more interested in attitude than experience, so if you’re a quick thinker who can solve problems and doesn’t mind an early start, we’d love to hear from you. We’ll provide all training to help you become TC, STMS Level 1, 2 and 3 and further.
We use a mix of classroom-based learning and practical training to keep groups engaged and ensure well-rounded learning. Small classrooms sizes ensure everyone receives all the support they need. We run courses regularly and can convene training sessions for large groups on request. If you are interested in attending one of our courses or arranging a larger group session, please contact us.
