PROJECTS
Our recent work
As our team and expertise continues to grow, so does our impressive portfolio of work. Here are just a handful of examples of past projects that Alliance has delivered on.
Traffic Projects
36th America's Cup
Beginning December 2020, the 36th Americas Cup will transform the Waitemata Harbour and surrounding areas of Auckland’s Viaduct into a world class and vibrant space for both spectators and yachting fans alike. Our team at Alliance Services Limited relishes the chance to provide access and temporary traffic management for earth’s most prestigious yachting event and world’s oldest sporting trophy.
Our team has been tasked with the flow of traffic and pedestrians moving in and around the Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour in order to access the America’s Cup Race Village throughout all America’s Cup Events. Our friendly team with be situated at the start of Hobson’s Wharf, at the Eastern and the Western Viaduct, right up to the Jellicoe Car Park.
Quay Street
A revitalised waterfront street is being created, with wider footpaths and easier navigation, designed for a 30km/h speed, with street furniture, trees, and opportunities for business and events.
Working alongside Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, Downer and JFC, we are helping undertake one of the Auckland CBD’s biggest projects. We’ve reduced four lanes of traffic to two, from Lower Albert Street to Commerce Street, and created dedicated bus lanes between Lower Albert Street and Lower Hobson Street. We’re increasing space for people, with wider footpaths, and space for events and trading
opportunities. As well as this, our team have added a cycleway separated from traffic, and helped with the planting of tree and raingardens.
Our traffic management strategies were to ensure traffic flows and overall customer experience to be maintained at a high level. Traffic Controllers were trained not only to deliver Traffic Management but also a high standard of customer service focus throughout, if not the busiest business location in New Zealand. Working closely with the TTM Manager and Project Team to minimise and mitigate congestion for
motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
K Road
The changes will enhance an already vibrant and dynamic street life to create an accessible, people-friendly public space. This will be done by:
• Decluttering footpaths, creating more space for people.
• Adding a cycleway in each direction, connecting to existing and planned cycleways.
• Adding more bike parking, lighting and street furniture.
• Adding peak hour bus lanes to improve the reliability and predictably of bus services.
• Enhancing the natural environment with rain gardens, landscaping, vegetation and trees.
• Creating more opportunities for outdoor dining and street activities.
• Creating an environment that reflects Maori cultural values.
Our Traffic Management strategies involve ensuring appropriate TMP’s and TTM requirements are compliant at all times. Alliance has also proudly maintained a high level of customer service whilst working closely with the JFC construction team, the takeholder managers, Auckland Transport and the City Rail Link (CRL).
Mission Bay
We kept traffic and pedestrians moving in Mission Bay while Auckland Transport transformed the area into a vibrant space for diners and visitors. Our team provided traffic temporary management on Tamaki Drive and Patteson Avenue, enabling AT to upgrade the streetscape with minimal disruption to traffic and pedestrians.
Mission Bay is one of Auckland’s favourite spots for dining and recreation, so a very high level of both traffic and stakeholder management was required. We had 4-5 traffic management personnel on site at any one time, as well as a dedicated stakeholder manager to liaise with local businesses and the community. We ensured safe walking
routes were available at all times and maintained uninterrupted access to the cinema and all of the restaurants, bars and shops along Tamaki Drive and Patteson Avenue.
Mt Albert Township
When Auckland Transport revitalised the Mt Albert town centre, with improved pedestrian and cycling access, landscaping, new lighting, street furniture and bus shelters, they needed an experienced team to partner with. We designed and implemented the traffic management strategy for the upgrade project, which is located in one of the busiest sections of the local road network, used by over 44,000 vehicles a day combined.
Our traffic management strategy was designed to minimise congestion and keep traffic flowing at peak times. With a large number of businesses located along both Carrington and Mt Albert roads, extensive stakeholder liaison was also required. We kept traffic flowing, even at peak times each day, and businesses continually informed of all works that might impact them. The planning of our traffic management strategy had a strong focus on minimising disruption.
Tristram Avenue
As part of the ongoing development of Auckland’s cycling network, Auckland Transport delivered a new shared cycle and pedestrian path along Tristram Ave and Curry’s Lane in the North Shore. Working on the Tristram Avenue Motorway Interchange off-ramp (used by over 40,000 vehicles per day) our experienced team designed and implemented the traffic management for the five month contract.
After AT originally suggesting that all works be undertaken at night, Alliance we concerned the timeline would be unachievable, and therefore developed an alternative construction schedule based on working around peak motorway flows, maintaining dual lane traffic in each direction, and reducing the off-ramp to a single lane in each direction during off-peak motorway hours. We concentrated construction works into the 9am-3pm off-peak period – enabling the project to be completed on time and without disruption to commuters.
The project required extensive planning and liaison with AMA, ATOC and ATT, and communication with adjacent business owners.
